Our young horse program is a comprehensive system to teach the young horse the proper fundamentals before starting their career. At first, time is spent learning the basics, being groomed, washed, and trimmed and a normal stable routine. Then horses are taught to walk, trot and canter on the lunge before the saddle and bridle are introduced. Once they are comfortable with the tack they begin to be backed and then ridden.Generally they spend the first week in the round pen before moving onto the ring and around the farm. Focus is on having a quiet confident horse that is properly broke to the hand and leg so they will maintain this through their adult life. Some examples of young horses that were started by Dana Noga are Amigo, Buck Buck Goose and Spinach Dip. Buck Buck Goose (owner Gift Hill Farm) has class wins and numerous top placings in the schooling and baby green hunters at shows such as Ocala HITS and the Vermont summer series. Spinach Dip (owner Emil Spadone) started his show career in the summer of 2010. Already he has numerous class wins and championship including 3/4 year old champion hunter at the Lexington National Horse Show out of 15 entries. All three were started at age three and ridden for at least a year learning the basics including going to local shows and HITS for mileage before going on to new owners or continuing their career. |
